A Brazilian Buttock Lift procedure requires three separate steps: 1) Your own fat is removed through standard liposuction techniques from your abdomen, flanks and back leaving you with a narrowed waistline. 2) The live fat cells are cleaned and processed. 3) The live fat cells are finally transferred to your buttocks, thus providing more posterior projection and fullness. The transfer of your own fat cells into your buttock is artistically placed within the superficial layers of soft tissue and fat above your buttock muscle. This ‘two-in-one’ procedure—liposuction plus fat transfer—results in rounder, fuller, and firmer buttocks along with a slimmer waistline, thus restoring your waist-to-hip ratio to more feminine proportions.
The goal of buttock augmentation must approximate the feminine waist-hip-ratio of approximately 0.7 (70% – 72%) in order to accentuate important anatomical landmarks of the female buttock anatomy. Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeons who understand these proportions and anatomical factors are able to restore their clients with a youthful and more attractive feminine figure.

Approximately 500 cc of fat was transferred into each buttock. Small bandages have been placed over the working sites and the scars are hidden within natural body creases. Bruising and discoloration of the skin is typical and normal.

What can I expect during my Brazilian Butt Lift consultation?
During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations. Although well qualified, we choose not to use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians’ assistants to perform your consultation. Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination to determine if you are a candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift.

Our office continues to receive calls regarding this question. The answer is, NO! Dr. Michael Thornton does NOT perform illegal “butt injections” for safety concerns. Liquid silicone or other “black-market” chemicals injected into your buttocks is considered illegal, immoral, negligent and may cause serious injury or death. Beware of untrained individuals and / or non-surgeons performing or marketing such wrongful techniques.
Will my insurance pay for my Brazilian Butt Lift procedure?
No, your insurance will not cover the fees associated with the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, as this procedure is purely an aesthetic procedure designed for cosmetic enhancement of your buttocks.
Where will my Brazilian Butt Lift surgery take place?
All Brazilian Buttock Lift procedures are performed under general anesthesia at Baylor Surgicare at Mansfield, a AAAHC certified out-patient surgery center, located in Mansfield, TX. On average, the procedure will take 3 – 5 hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the case and the areas and amount of liposuction that will be needed during fat harvesting. Furthermore, all Brazilian Butt Lift procedures are performed using general anesthesia as provided by board-certified anesthesiologists. We do not perform or believe in performing ‘awake’ Brazilian Butt Lift.
What will I expect after my Brazilian Butt Lift surgery? What is the typical recovery process?
Following surgery you will peacefully recover in the PACU at the Surgery Center with certified nurses for several hours. After adequate recovery you will be escorted to your home or place of stay by your care-giver and it is very important to have your adult care-giver stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery to ensure your safety and provide assistance. Our office will provide a tight body garment to be worn at all times and you will be provided with several prescriptions: for pain, for muscle relaxation, for antibiotics, and a prescription for nausea. It is encouraged not to place direct pressure on your buttocks for approximately 2 weeks so you will be expected to lay on your stomach or sides during resting. You may shower within 24-48 hours following surgery and you may ambulate carefully in your house. You will follow up with Dr. Thornton many, many times following your surgery. Approximately 80% of the liposuction swelling will resolve in 2 weeks and your final result will become noticeable in approximately 3-4 months — although results may vary; however, most clients will see dramatic results in several weeks as the swelling and bruising subsides.
Safety in Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery!
Most recently, it has been reported in the news of multiple fatalities associated with Brazilian Butt Lift due to fat embolism (fat particles traveling to your lungs). Unfortunately, many of these fatalities were associated with improper technique and improper surgeon training when performing the fat transfer portion of the procedure. It is important to remember your safety is very important to Dr. Michael Thornton! First, he selects only those candidates who are healthy, who can tolerate general anesthesia and who can tolerate prone (on-stomach) positioning during the procedure. Second, he maintains absolute safety protocols during the fat transfer portion of the procedure, whereby he only uses specialized blunt (non-sharp) surgical instruments (blunt-tipped cannulas) to minimize puncture of blood vessels. Third, he does not inject the fat directly into the deep buttock muscle or near pelvic bones but injects the fat into the soft tissue space of the buttock and above the muscle. Lastly, he injects the fat with hand-held syringes using low and controlled pressure and injects the fat when removing the cannula (called retrograde injection). All of these highly skilled maneuvers and safety measures minimize accidental puncture of blood vessels and minimize fat embolism. It is recommended that you see a board-certified cosmetic or plastic surgeon who performs a significant amount of Brazilian Butt Lift procedures and who has knowledge in the safety measures described above.
